The only thing inevitable in this fast-paced digital world is change. Trends come, go, stay, or evolve into something new, and you are supposed to adjust and adapt. Similarly, there’s no denying that project management has changed in the last ten years. As a project manager, it is your job to keep up with the changing trends in order to fulfill the client’s requirements and meet deadlines. Keep reading to learn the four top project management trends for 2023.

1. Globalized Project Management

One thing that the pandemic has completely changed is the organizational work structure. According to a report by Mercer, more than 70% of organizations have planned to adopt a hybrid work model. This means that project managers will now be hiring and managing a team of developers, designers, and quality assurance testers from all over the world.

For this, companies are developing project management software to make collaboration efficient. The platform will allow companies to brainstorm ideas, have meetings, and solve problems from their safe space. Despite the different time zones, it will be the project manager’s responsibility to ensure that all the requirements are communicated and that everyone is in sync.

2. Agile Re-Defined

In the last few years, we have seen a new definition of agile project management. According to this, agile projects are no longer pre-defined by a budget, scope, or date. Instead, the project produces a viable product after every sprint. So, to increase productivity and work efficiently, companies need to manage everything at once, including seasonal demands, customer requirements, and marketing schedules.

Project managers are using a new hybrid waterfall/agile approach to bridge this gap. The combination of agile project management and water project management allows them to manage scope, cost, and schedule perfectly while being able to make the necessary changes.

3. Advance Resource Management

Resource Management tools and techniques have become more sophisticated and automated. For example, many project managers previously used Google Sheets for organizational purposes. However, today people are moving to PSA (Professional Service Automation) platforms that not only automate mundane resource functions but also create models that help in keeping everything organized.

Furthermore, skill tracker integrations have made project management a lot easier. As of now, a lead can easily assign tasks to the right person.

4. Expansion of Automation and Artificial Intelligence

One of the most apparent project management trends for 2023 is the evolution and expansion of artificial intelligence. AI plays a vital role in helping companies gain analytics and achieve productivity and transparency. Knowing which projects are most in-demand allows the teams to identify risks accurately. Project managers can use artificial intelligence to perform complex tasks and strategically schedule sprints and meetings and make informed decisions based on real-time insights.
